The National Defence Academy has been a home away from home for more than 30,000 of its alumni who have spent three years of their youth on its campus. There is no doubt that these were the three most eventful years of their lives, with the most intense of physical, mental and emotional moments ever experienced. The desire to come back to their alma mater is therefore insatiable. To go down memory lane in nostalgic reminiscence of one's life as a cadet is one thing; but to relive those halycon days in the Academy's sacred precincts is something none would like to miss.
The NDA alumni enter with humongous bear hugs, backslapping and affectionate name-calling and then get down to catching up with the latest on their coursemates and their spouses. Then with gossip and with familiar anecdotes, they recreate the ambience of their heydays. A sense of the déjà vu overwhelms them as they stay in the cabins of the cadets, dine in the Cadets' Mess, watch movies in the Habibullah Hall or simply promenade on the not too unfamiliar sidewalks of the Academy. The rolling and the push ups, the order fall-in and the bugle sounding the reveille are the other things that feed the wellspring of their nostalgic reminiscence.
They were here as raw young boys but they return as much heralded officers with many gallantry and distinguished service awards to their credit, some having reached the pinnacle of the profession. In the following pages we give you a pictorial essay of some of the course reunions at the NDA. |
